Peanut went to see Dr. G for a recheck and received a clean bill of health: no sneezing or snottiness (well, a snotty nose is one thing; a snotty attitude is another…)

Peanut hates watermelon-flavored medicine. She likes strawberry, but not watermelon. She also hates when mommy has to hold her still and squirt the icky, yucky, awful, no-good, nasty medicine into her mouth. Mommy doesn’t seem to understand that a *thump* is a *thump*. Poor, poor Peanut.
‘What is a foot flick?’

Good question.
Rabbits flick their feet when they’re displeased with someone, human or fellow bunny alike. As they turn their butt to you (also known as giving The Butt) and hop away, they put a little extra ‘oomph’ into their hop, like a bucking bronco on a smaller scale.
According to The Language of Lagomorphs, when your “rabbit turns and hops away, flicking its feet quickly backward and to the sides in an exaggerated way, often making a sort of whooshing noise (a “foot-flick,” or being “flipped off”)” it’s best translated as “I am shaking your dust off my heels.”
Peanut had her appointment with Dr. G today. The good news is that the congestion is entirely upper respiratory and she’ll just be on antibiotics for the next ten days. She did really well throughout the visit, even when being cradled and weighed (4.75 lb). I told Dr. G that I had planned to send a card with this photo letting him know how well she was doing. But since we were there, I just gave him the photo anyway. He loved it, as did the girls at the front desk and they hung it right up on the wall. As we were checking out, the receptionist told Dr. G that a woman had called to make an appointment because her bunny’s head was tilting. I hope that when she comes in she sees the photo of Peanut, and knows that a tilt isn’t a death sentence. When we got back home, Peanut (who had slept for most of the ride) immediately charged out of the crate and gave me several stern foot flicks. That’s my Diva.

There’s nothing like the sound of cat screams in the morning.
I was vaguely awake when I heard yowling, followed by Dad clapping his hands and the closing of bedroom doors. He’d been sipping his tea, heard the noise, and ran down to Hannah’s room to find PJ face-to-face with “Brian” (a healthy looking tuxedo tomcat that hangs around our house; we’ve named him, though we have no idea where he lives or what his real name is). There was a pane of glass between them, but PJ was carrying on as if there wasn’t.
Of course, the other cats were attracted to the noise, and that’s when the melee started. PJ turned on Stephanie, then Scully, and the three of them went at it. That was when Dad clapped his hands loudly, startling them long enough for him to isolate them in different rooms until they calmed down. Jackson Galaxy has an interesting case study on Redirected Aggression. Luckily, this morning’s incident wasn’t too serious, and the guilty parties are once again friends. But we have got to find a way to discourage “Brian” from visiting.

Hannah comes into my room to say goodnight, and gives Peanut a quick noserub. “You’re such a sweet lil’ bunny girl.” And Peanut cocks her head as if to say, Yeah, I know. For all that she’s gone through this past year, Peanut has grown even more affectionate and much more confidant. She absolutely loves to snuggle. She chases Rex at meal times. And she fears nothing, except maybe the nail clippers. When I turn the vacuum on, Rex runs to hide in his castle and Peanut runs to check it out. I have to make sure I don’t run her over as she dances around, thrilled to be a part of the action.
Then I chime in, “Who’s my bunny girl?” and Peanut bounds over to where I’m sitting. She’s amazingly fast and agile, and still has quite a lot of bounce in her step. I start to massage her ears and she melts, settling down, resting her head on my foot. She begins to snore.
“I love you, Peanut.” Yeah, I know.

Leaving ‘cocoa puffs’ in a fresh pile of hay that makes Rex very happy. I don’t know why and I don’t really try to understand it. Is it his way of staking a claim in the orchard grass? Does he momentarily forget where said cocoa puffs belong? At least they’re not hard to shake off and sweep up.
Ah, the things we do for love.
