To Miko, my loveable chunky monkey, Steph, my precious princess, and PJ, my goofy man-cat, a happy second birthday from your (human) mom.

Meclizine may cause drowsiness

August 10, 2006 l Comments Off

Or so they say. Must be true, because at the moment Peanut is stretched out on her side sound asleep. I hate that it’s because I drugged her, but considering how much she was exhausting herself by maneuvering around the pen, I’ll consider it a well-deserved rest.

Rex, on the other hand, is curled up on his blankie with a toy at each paw. Spoiled rabbit.

Tomorrow is the kittens’ birthday. I say that because, if for some reason I should forget to post about it, there will some evidence in my favor to prove that I really am an attentive mom.

From myself and the fuzzbutts: G’night!

Our wonderful bunny vet, Dr. G, is on vacation until tomorrow. Since Peanut’s condition is stable (still eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, and being an all-around Diva) I didn’t feel the need to rush her in for a visit. I did leave a message to let him know what’s going on, and also asked about Meclizine to help control her dizziness and rolling. We’ll see what he says…

*eta*

Just spoke with Dr. G. He thinks Meclizine is a good idea, and he gave me the dosage information, etc. Said most rabbits have good success with it, so I hope it works for my baby girl.

Wish us luck tonight – she’s getting a long overdue butt trim. She’s always had issues with matting and messy bottom, but since she can’t even clean herself lately, something needs to be done to curb the mess. I’ll be on her mean list for awhile, I fear..

A friend and Peanut fan made this graphic of my baby girl. Thanks, ForJazz!

Apologies for not updating sooner. Peanut’s head tilt returned this week, following a move to a smaller cage in my parent’s bedroom. When the temperature skyrocketed, the rabbits needed to be kept cool and comfortable, and at that point the only room with AC was my parents. The move, of course, threw Peanut for a loop. She lost her balance very easily, rolled repeatedly, walked in circles, while other times she seemed to say “to heck with this” and just laid there on her side.

The bunnies moved back to their pen in my bedroom on Thursday, and Peanut still hasn’t recovered fully. She is eating hay, pellets, and veggies, drinking from the water buddy, and pooping up a storm (always a good sign). Because she still rolls the edge of the pen has been lined with blankets. Even though she’s as spirited as ever, it’s hard to see her like this, and I’ve been giving her a lot of extra attention.

Which is where Rex comes in. He didn’t seem bothered by the time I was spending with Peanut, but I had noticed that lately he was becoming more and more….enthusiastic. For one, he’s started binkying at meal times. He’s never done that before, he barely binkies for treats. But every time I’d come near the cage it would be Look at me mom, look, look *wheeeee*. And he’d get the obligate nose rub.

But that wasn’t enough, and this morning Rex threw a 5-pound bunny’s version of a temper tantrum. While I was giving Peanut her morning TTouch, he tried to eat the cargo pocket off my shorts. When I pushed his nose away, he rammed his little head into my butt. Repeatedly.

Fine, Rex, I’ll move.

No sooner did I move than he started pulling the blankets from the edge of the pen with considerable ‘enthusiasm’.

Rex, what are you doing?

*grunt*

Rex, stop it, those are for Peanut.

*grunt*snort*

I’d put the blankets back, he’d pull them away.

Rex, stop it. Now.

Fine. He ran over to the litterbox (flicking his toes all the way) and started chucking hay everywhere. All this time Peanut is laying placidly by my leg, which prevented me from doing much to curb Rex’s obvious displeasure. My dear boy, what is it that you want? To mess up the blankets, apparently, because he started doing it again.

I put my finger firmly on his nose and I said Rex, you need to stop doing this. Just. Stop. I started rubbing his nose, then his ears, and with a relieved sigh his whole body melted into an ooey-gooey puddle of bunny love.

That’s all I wanted, Mom.
